Question of the week: future plans

June 2, 2015 / by JaimeLee / Leave a Comment

School visits are the best.

Some of the questions and comments I receive are standard, but it’s a special treat to get surprised with something that hasn’t been asked before.

Last week, I had the pleasure of speaking with the students at Gulf Shore Consolidated in Rustico on Wednesday, and Montague Consolidated students on Friday. Both schools were so accommodating and everyone is just lovely.

While at both of these schools, I was given questions that I had to really think about. And I talk a lot, so I never have enough time to say everything I want to say.

Yesterday I was at Spring Park, and again, not everyone had a chance to ask their questions, and I didn’t have time to adequately answer all of the questions I was asked. So, I thought I should use my blog to focus on one of my favourite questions every week. (And it’s my blog so I can be as wordy as I want. Yay!)

Last week in Montague, Fish and Chips (aka Emma), asked me a great question:

What are your plans beyond the Legend of Rhyme (LOR) series? (I’m paraphasing but that’s the gist.)

I loved this question because I know the answer.

The tricky thing about writing a series for children aged 9-12 is that they tend to grow up quickly. And when they get past the age of 12, they don’t necessarily want to read the same sort of thing they read at age 9. But, if everything goes according to plan, these readers will LOVE the LOR books so much that they’ll want to read about these characters when they’re in their teens.

(See where I’m going here?)

My plan, after the ten-book LOR series is complete, is to continue the legend in a YA (young adult) series of books.

Will you read them? Let me know in a comment! And if you have questions you’d like to ask me, please, ask in a comment, or find me on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook!
